Statoil Told to Set Aside Nigerian Oil Field Revenue, FT Says

Feb. 26 (Bloomberg) -- a Nigerian court has ordered Statoil ASA to set aside all revenue from its stake in an oil field following a claim from a businessman that the oil company owes him a share of the profit, the Financial Times reported, citing a ruling by a federal high court in Lagos on Feb. 25.
The order came after John Abebe claimed that Statoil agreed to pay him 1.5 percent of the net profit from certain Nigerian assets to repay him for helping to broker the company’s entry into Nigeria in the 1990s, the FT said. The order is temporary, pending a hearing on March 10, the newspaper said.
